About
Us: Our Services, Groups and Activities
Llanwenarth
is a lively Baptist fellowship which seeks to
blend the best of our Baptist heritage with
ways that can speak to the needs of today.
We
are proud of a past which has seen the planting
of a dozen daughter churches throughout north
Gwent, and until very recently, we celebrated
that with our annual Cymanfa Ganu on the evening
of Good Friday. This filled the chapel with
singers and with song as we told the story of
the life and death of Jesus Christ through the
best of our hymnody.
But
we still seek to tell the good news in ways
that will chime with the needs of today, as
Sunday by Sunday we gather morning and evening
to worship the God who meets with us in Jesus
Christ. Details of our service times and the
themes for each service are to be found in our
Monthly Newsletter.
The Newsletter also includes details of our
midweek meetings,
through which we seek to grow in the understanding
and practice of following Jesus as Lord. .
We
also seek to make a difference in our society.
The building of Llanwenarth Baptist Church lies
is physically in the centre of the village at
Govilon. And in many ways the fellowship of
the church does much the same in the life of
the village. Many of our members play active
roles in the various village societies, and
as a fellowship we seek to serve our village
community through our organisations.
We
have also run a Mothers' and Toddlers' Group, meeting
weekly in termtime, and a regular pensioners'
Luncheon Club, which meets fortnightly on Wednesdays
(except for a break during August holidays) although we have postponed these presently owing to CoVid restrictions.
Details
of all current meetings and activities are to
be found in the Monthly Newsletter.
We
also work with other Christian organisations
as we try to continue God's mission at home
and abroad. We have particularly close links
with the Baptist Missionary Society, Christian
Aid and the Leprosy Mission. More information
about each of these organisations can be found
on our Wider Links page.
We
warmly invite you to come and join us in any
of our activities - or just to take a look around
our chapel and learn a little of our history.
